What is Organization, Really?

What is Organization, Really?

So I was having a conversation with my husband on the topic of an organized closet and what it entails…because his thoughts were that I simply walk into a closet, place clothing on hangers, position shoes on the floor and just make the closet look neat but that is only 10% of what I do when I organize a closet.

Because he has this misconception, I decided, Hey…maybe this is what others think and why they feel that have an organized closet is not essential – (which in my mind, I can’t understand because one of the first things you do in the morning is walk into your closet and get dressed)….

dictionary-1149723_640

I like to look at the definition of words to give a more thorough understanding; so here is the definition of organize:

Merriam-Webster gives these definitions of the word organize:

Definition of organize

organized

organizing

  1. transitive verb
  2. 1:  to cause to develop an organic structure

  3. 2:  to form into a coherent unity or functioning whole :  integrate <trying to organize her thoughts>

  4. 3a :  to set up an administrative structure forb :  to persuade to associate in an organization; especially :  unionize

  5. 4:  to arrange by systematic planning and united effort

  6. intransitive verb
  7. 1:  to undergo physical or organic organization

  8. 2:  to arrange elements into a whole of interdependent parts

  9. 3:  to form an organization; specifically :  to form or persuade workers to join a union

I know I gave the whole list of definitions but I just wanted you to really understand how the word organize is defined.

So the three that stuck out to me are #3, #5, and #8…

For definition #3 I decided to look at the meaning of coherent.

When I searched on Google the first words I noticed was logical; consistent and orderly (Coherent) and when I clicked on Merriam-Webster.com – logically or aesthetically ordered; having clarity or intelligibility; having the quality of holding together.

question-423604_1280

Okay, so what does all this means?

So I gave you all these definitions and you still don’t understand…Let me put it all together –

Organizing a closet means having to create a system in a logical, consistent order that helps keep your wardrobe functional.

With that being said, organizing a closet is more than just making it look neat; we have to create a plan, a system to put everything in it’s proper place so that you can consistently keep your wardrobe functional.

I still don’t get it…

Well, let me explain it to you in business sense – you have or may still be an employee. The company you worked for (or currently) is running as an organization – each person has a purpose and a job…

Hence, your closet – this is why you use organizational supplies to help put each type of item in its proper place. The organizational supplies you use each have a purpose and a job to separate, to lay neat, to hang, to protect, etc.

questions-1328465_1280-1

Okay I get it, but why should I have an organized closet?

Still don’t think you need an organized closet? Think it’s a waste of money…

Well answer these questions for me?

  • Do you constantly have clothing on the floor?
  • Do you have a hard time determining whether those clothing on the floor is clean or dirty (do you conduct the ‘Does it Smell?’ Test?)
  • Does your dresser drawers look like an over stuffed turkey?
  • Are you scared to walk into your closet?
  • Do you wear the same clothing over and over and over?
  • Can you find the new clothing you purchased yesterday?
  • Does it take you longer than 15 minutes to pick an outfit?
  • Do you feel stressed when looking at your closet?
  • Can you find that shirt you wore last week?
  • Can you see the floor of your closet?

approval-15914_640

The benefits of an organized closet/wardrobe:

  • No more stress – be able to put outfits together in less than 15 minutes because you are able to see everything; everything is put in its proper place
  • No clutter – no clothing on the floor, no lost clothing; foundations are neatly separated each drawer
  • More time – instead of spending most of your mornings worrying about what to wear, you can focus on important tasks, ie. actually eating a hot breakfast at home, reading the newspaper, meditating/praying, etc.
  • A de-cluttered mind – your closet has a direct effect on your mindset; disorganization of your closet causes a dis-organization of the mind leading to frustration and even anxiety but with an organized closet your mind is free from clutter.

And behold their eyes were opened 🙂

What is an Investment Piece?

shopping-606993_1280

Some of you may have heard from a fashion stylist, wardrobe stylist or consultant that you should have investment pieces in your closet. And when you have heard that, you may have flinched at the thought of purchasing clothing at higher costs than you would normally spend.

Now I want to tell you my thoughts on Investment Pieces of clothing…

Investment Pieces of clothing should NEVER be bought at a price you cannot afford…In other words, do not go into debt, do not use your car payment or mortgage money to purchase any of these items.

Do I believe you should have investment pieces in your wardrobe? Yes I do but within reasonable budget. For example, I have a trench coat I purchased for $50 and I had it for over 5 years, that’s approximately $10 a year. Being that I live in Myrtle Beach, SC we don’t have long, cold winters so that was worth the money. But if I lived in New York, I would purchase a much better quality coat because the winters there are longer and colder. Again I would purchase according to my spending budget.

An investment piece of clothing should be an item that will last years.

Investment pieces vary from person to person, as I gave you my story of my trench coat for $50.00, another may purchase a coat for $250 because their budget and lifestyle fit the cost. So it’s important to be wise in your spending, no matter what you are purchasing.

dialog-148815_1280

Here are a few tips to purchasing investment pieces:

  • Make a shopping plan of what items you need

  • Create a budget plan

  • Create a shopping list based on your shopping plan and budget

  • Stay focused while shopping, making sure to only purchase what is on your list

  • Shop off-season (i.e. shop for fall/winter items in the spring/summer and spring/summer items in fall/winter) – this is when you will find great prices

  • Try online shopping – quality products at reasonable prices (FYI: make sure you know your measurements)

  • Make sure to read the Care Instructions on each item before purchasing – you want to make sure that you are able to care for the items as directed by the label. For example, if it says Dry Clean, make sure that you are able to afford that expense compared to the cost of the item…Is it worth it?

  • Have FUN!!

So what exactly are some Investment Pieces worth purchasing??

The Perfect Pair of Jeans

Have you struggled to find the perfect pair of jeans? Do you try on a ton of jeans in one try-on session, only to not be able to find one pair of jeans that fit your body?

No worries, let me help you…

Before you even think about searching, trying on, and purchasing a pair of jeans…

First thing’s first, get your measurements.

Download your free Measure My Body guide and measure your body. Download it HERE

Now that you have your measurements, you can begin the search for the perfect pair of jeans…

I want to say first and foremost that what one may consider to be the perfect fit may not fit the criteria for another but here are a few suggestions and tips to use:

  • Make sure your jeans are not super tight – this will only cause a lot of bulging *Honestly super tight jeans are not very flattering and they are very uncomfortable.
  • Rule of thumb – make sure you have room in your jeans to insert your thumb at your waist. You want to have a good stretch at the waist without it being to big.

0913161848a

  • You should be able to bend and move in your jeans. (Not to be brutal, but you don’t want to look like a plumber from the back)
  • Your jeans should be a smooth fit, laying flat over your body (no lumps or bumps)

0913161848

  • Of course, we want to have a flattering round bottom

Personally, I love high waist jeans, because they give me a more flattering look and I feel sexy. Most importantly, they hide my little pouch…LOL!

I purchased these jeans from a great online store that I have fallen in love with and if you are a curvaceous woman, this is the perfect website for you to purchase your jeans fashionnova.com

Most Importantly

Always remember that your jeans should be three things: FIERCE, FABULOUS, and FUNCTIONAL!!

Help I Need A Wardrobe Do-Over!! Part 4

Hey Guys!!

So this is the last step in completing a wardrobe do-over…SHOPPING!

Now, I am not talking about impulse-no plan-going broke-buy everything you see shopping.

WHAT’S FIRST?

Before you even step outside to go to your first store…you need to have a plan and a list! Whenever you take a grocery shopping trip, do you just go in and pick up what you think you need or want or do you have a plan and a list? Right…a plan and a list. The same applies to clothing shopping or any type of shopping.

You cannot go into this blindly.

So let’s create a plan. How? I created a form that you can complete to help you in this process. Click HERE and download What is My Shopping Plan?

Before moving on, it is imperative that you complete this form NOW.

emblem-1294453_1280

I know this may seem like a lot of work but it is important that you are prepared for your shopping trips. Once you make a habit, you will be able to go shopping without a list.

Alright everyone…this is it! I hope this series Help I Need a Wardrobe Do-Over!! has helped you in creating and/or updating your wardrobe.

Again, I love this online clothing store and highly recommend their clothing. It is UK based so you won’t receive your order in 3 days but it may take 7 to 10 days…but trust me it is worth the wait! I absolutely love everything I have purchased – no flaws; and even after washing a few of them, no shrinkage, no fading. They cover duties and taxes and if you spend $50 or more, free shipping…you can’t beat that. And trust me you will spend $50 easily and get great deals!! Check them out boohoo.com.

LET’S REVIEW

Alright, so as you all know I am completing a wardrobe do-over and wanted to share how you can complete one as well.

The first step was to get your measurements…after all you wouldn’t know what fit or didn’t fit if you have no idea what your size is.

The second step was to determine your personality style…This is how you will know what clothing is true to who you are. And if you were stuck on this step, you can complete the CONTACT ME form and I can help you.

SO WHAT’S NEXT?

It’s time to Purge, Baby, Purge!! The biggest mistake I have noticed when we try to clean and organize our closets is that we tend to SHOP FIRST. That is a big No-No…and let me tell you why: you don’t know what to shop for

As a result, you may overspend and/or purchase the wrong items. In other words, you go in without a plan or purpose.

Purging your wardrobe takes honesty – being honest with what doesn’t fit your body or personality.

When purging your wardrobe here are the questions you should ask yourself:

(1) Is the item in poor condition? Is the item in good condition but out of date? (2) Is this an item you really like, and would purchase in the store if you were to see it? (3) Has this item been worn in the past 2 years? If not, why? (Your why will determine whether it stays or goes) (4) Does it fit your style personality, body type (fit and flatter), and does the color compliment your skin tone? (5) Do you feel good in this item? — If you are undecided on any particular item place it in the MAYBE bag.

Before moving onto the next step you need to make sure you have made a final decision on the MAYBE clothing.

Now that you have purged and let it go…you can create your inventory list.

Click HERE to download the Wardrobe Checklist I created and use it during this step in your Wardrobe Do-Over.

NOW WHAT?

shopping-1015437_1280

Once you have completed this step….It’s time to get excited because the final and last step in this journey is SHOPPING!!! I know some of you may not be as excited about this, but when you see how easy and stress free your shopping experience will be once I show you HOW…all of those frowns will turn upside down!

Until Then….

HAPPY CLOSET-PURGING!!

Hey Everyone!! It’s been sometime since I posted. So much has been going on…working on Agape Love Clothing and Accessories, getting son ready for school (YES! School is now in session), working on my Image/Style Consultant website and many other projects.

And on top of that my allergies are going crazy, have a bad cough…and my baby girl has a cold.

BUTTTTTT…….

EXCITING NEWS

I am excited to say that I have received my orders from, my now, FAVORITE ONLINE CLOTHING STORE Boohoo!!! The quality is out of this world and the fit is AMAZING!

I am doing a complete wardrobe makeover or shall I say do-over…my clothing were so out-dated, the wrong sizes (body changed after giving birth to my second), did not fit my personality – just TOTALLY WRONG!!!

And I want to share this journey with you…

 WHERE DO I START?

The first thing to do when you are doing a wardrobe audit, transforming your wardrobe, adding items to your wardrobe…is to TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS!!

Measurements…but I don’t know how.

Simple…You can try to measure yourself or you could have a friend or family member measure you.

First, you must have a tape measure…not the one your husband uses to build (LOL) but the sewing tape measure that dressmakers use. I will be honest, this is something we all should have because our body constantly changes. You can purchase them from Walmart for about $5.00:

Tape Measure

Tape measure

Very inexpensive!

WHAT NEXT?

*Dramatic Music* Now let’s get those measurements.

What do I measure?

Great question…Click Here and print the document it will be your best friend!

NEXT STEP: Personality Style….

Happy Wardrobing!!!
